A Message from Dr. Paul Lapierre

Welcome to Atlantic Vision Group. Many of you have trusted me with your eye care for decades, and some of you have followed me through several office moves and different stages of my professional career. For your loyalty and confidence, I am sincerely grateful.

This page answers many of the questions patients have been asking about the new office, my practice and how appointments work. If your question is not answered here, please contact our office.

About the Practice

Why are you moving?

Many of you have trusted me with your eye care for decades, and some of you have followed me through several office moves and different stages of my professional career. For your loyalty and confidence, I am sincerely grateful.

More than 30 years ago, I established Atlantic Vision Group as the foundation of my practice. Since then, my practice has evolved in many ways. I have worked as a solo practitioner, expanded to a larger multi-doctor clinic, and have now chosen to return to a smaller, more focused practice.

As I began planning for the future, I explored different options to ensure continuity of care for my patients. After careful consideration and firsthand experience, I realized that returning to a smaller, more personalized practice would allow me to continue providing the kind of care that I believe my patients deserve.

Although the office has moved, it is only a short distance away—just across the block. Any move brings challenges and temporary inconveniences, and I sincerely apologize for any disruption this transition may cause.

Please be assured that my commitment to your eye health has not changed. I look forward to continuing to care for you, monitoring your eye health and providing the thoughtful, personalized care that has always been the foundation of my practice.

Am I retiring?

This is probably the question I am asked most often. Over the past few years, there have been many rumours that I am retiring. While I understand why these rumours have circulated, I would like to reassure everyone that I have no immediate plans to retire.

My goal is to continue caring for my patients through Atlantic Vision Group. As I move toward the later stages of my career, I plan to maintain a smaller, more focused practice that allows me to continue providing the personalized care that has always been important to me.

Rather than growing my practice, my focus is on caring for my existing patients and ensuring that each of you continues to receive the attention and care you deserve.

When the time eventually comes for me to retire, I will communicate my plans well in advance and work to ensure that my patients have appropriate ongoing eye care, so you will never be left wondering where to turn.

Appointments & Services

What is an Advisory Visit?

An Advisory Visit is an opportunity for us to meet in person to discuss a concern or question you may have about your eyes or vision, so that we can review the situation and problem-solve together.

These visits are intended to provide advice, answer questions and help determine the most appropriate next step. An examination is not routinely planned. If I feel an examination is necessary, I will recommend it and arrangements will be made at the earliest appropriate opportunity.

An Advisory Visit is designed to give you access to me when you have a question or concern between your regular eye examinations.

Why are my eyes dilated during my Advisory Visit?

Dilating eye drops allow me to obtain a much better view of the retina, optic nerve and other structures at the back of the eye. In many cases, this provides the information needed to answer your questions, assess your concerns and offer the most appropriate advice.

Your vision may remain blurred for several hours after dilation, particularly for reading and close work. Please plan accordingly and consider arranging transportation if you are uncomfortable driving after dilation.

Why do I need a Booking Code to book online?

Online booking is restricted to active Atlantic Vision Group patients. The Booking Code helps protect appointment availability for established patients.

We will provide the code after confirming that you are an active patient. The code is also printed on your appointment reminder sheet.

How do I change or cancel my appointment?

You may call our main office at 506-853-1990 and speak with our AI assistant, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You may also call the appointment-change line at 506-853-1990, use the website, or contact the office during business hours to speak with the receptionist.

Please do not book a duplicate appointment to replace an existing one.

Do I need an appointment to pick up my prescription or have a form completed?

Not always. Many prescription, form and other administrative requests can be handled without an Advisory Visit.

Please contact the office first. In many cases, the request can be completed while you wait or with little or no appointment required.

Why am I being called back for a prescription refill?

We may call you back because we need to confirm your medication details before renewing your prescription. This helps us verify the medication name, dosage and any recent changes so that no errors are made.

This verification is standard procedure and is completed for your safety.

Urgent Care

What is considered an eye emergency?

An Advisory Visit is not intended for eye emergencies. Please contact the office immediately or seek urgent medical attention for sudden loss of vision, new flashes or a sudden increase in floaters, a curtain or shadow over your vision, severe eye pain, significant trauma, a chemical injury, or another sudden change in vision that concerns you.

If you are unsure whether your problem is urgent, please call the office so we can help determine the most appropriate next step.

Thank you for the confidence and trust you have placed in me over the years. If your question is not answered here, please contact our office. I look forward to continuing to provide you with thoughtful, personalized care.
